Week 5 Spring FCS Official Plays

Rather than creating a new post for each bet, I am just going to pin this post for the week and go in and add information and plays as they come in. As always, follow me on twitter @MikeyLoBets to be notified as soon as I make any official plays.

Last Week Recap

Last Week: 2-0, +5.00 Units

South Dakota @ North Dakota (-0.5)
Villanova (-2.5) @ Sacred Heart

The first leg hit fairly easily on Thursday Night with North Dakota covering the regular spread, but I sure was glad I made the decision to tease Villanova down on Saturday as they won by 3 points. Villanova led by 9 points late in the 4th quarter (it should have been 9 but they missed an extra point) but then had a blocked punt lead to an easy Touchdown for Sacred Heart. I was pulling my hair out thinking that a missed XP and a blocked punt was going to lead to a 2-point Villanova win and a heartbreaking loss for me… but Sacred Heart returned the favor by missing an extra point of their own and giving us the half-point cover. Got to love the FCS!

Incarnate Word (-16) @ Lamar

Lamar actually played a little better than I expected them to as they kept this one close in the first half. Their offense took a step forward but their defense continued to be putrid (more on that later) and the floodgates ended up opening up in the second half giving us the 3 Unit Cover. I will be keeping a close eye on both of them these moving forward.

Week 5: Spring FCS

Lamar/McNeese State Over 46.5 (-108) (Bookmaker)

This is a play against both of these defenses. The total score has gone over this number easily in both of Lamar’s games and in 2 of the 3 McNeese State games.

We saw first-hand how bad Lamar’s defense was last week. In two games so far this Spring, it hasn’t been pretty:
@ Nicholls – 55 points & 639 yards allowed
vs Incarnate Word – 42 points & 626 yards allowed

McNeese State’s defense hasn’t been much better. As you may recall, a few weeks ago I wrote about how they lost their defensive coordinator about a week before their first game. It certainly looks like they are still scrambling to get it figured out on that side of the ball. In 3 games here is how it looks:
@ Tarleton State – 40 points & 408 yards allowed (granted this was a 2 OT game)
vs Incarnate Word – 48 points & 518 yards allowed
@ SE Louisiana – 25 points & 492 yards allowed

As you can see, neither defensive unit as things close to figured out right now. Neither offense is particular impressive, but Lamar’s young offense did make some progress last week putting up 20 points on 360 yards of total offense. They also turn the ball over a lot which could lead to some short fields for the McNeese offense.

The McNeese offense hasn’t been bad or good in my opinion but going up against a defense like this in front of your home crowd (which just increased capacity to 50%) could make for a “get right” game for Cody Orgeron and the Cowboy offense.
